#62 281016

I cant even remember the last 'Diary Post' – everything I wrote since then is stored somewhere in my head, but only there. So many ideas, plans, goals ! So, let's start..
There was a lot of happening since my Roadtrip. Got back to Sydney – as you know – lived there in a hostel until I was fed up, in a shared house until I got kicked out, on a couch until I found a car, in my car until I finally left this place. That's a life.
I will give my best to keep my '2016 story' going through some articles, to wrap my experiences up and to pick out my best tips for you. Here, in this diary, I can't tell my story more detailed– missed it – have to focus on the present moment, on what's happening right here and now. So what is happening now ? I am in Byron Bay, sitting together with some crazy people from all over the world, drinking a cold beer, writing this and listening to a pretty interesting discussion about the best and cheapest wine in town. (I should definitely write an article about it!)
Left Sydney about 3 weeks ago (I'm distracted – scusy), made a little Roadtrip together with a french guy I've met back in the hostel-times and arrived here in beautiful Byron Bay !
Enjoyed the last two weeks at their best, while doing some exploring, a lot of party and spending most of my days at the beach. Beside that I also found a job and some new friends.
Oh, and I'm broke again, broke but happy.
So get your sh** together Kim and work !

#60 10 INCREDIBLY HELFUL TIPS TO SAVE MONEY WHILE TRAVELING

What an enormous power a simple piece of thin paper can have on us humans … money.

Some of us have a lot of paper, others have enough to life a good life we would call 'normal', more than just a few have barely nothing.
But when you are traveling, oh when you're traveling it turns out to be a completely different story.
Even though it does obviously depend on which place in our big world you have chosen as your next place to be, I have barely met any (long time) traveler who did not have to waste some thoughts on their wallet and the relationship between them and what fills it.

I spent a lot of time contemplating about mine, listening to people who have never even had the chance of spending just as half as much money as I do per week, listening to others who could spend it all within one week if they want to but first of all - listening to myself when standing in front of mirrors like that. I still allow myself to spend some notes on clothing, still buy those $5 coffee rather than making my own using some weird powder and boiling water, still pay $8 for a beer. By now, I have figured out how to keep track of my expenses and to avoid ending up completely broke (even though it was quite an experience).

I collected these 10 helpful tricks that will help you to keep your coins together !

Book your flights smart
Remember my detailed description of how much I hated waking up at crazy times in the early morning just to catch the plane to Adelaide ?
Well, as you can probably guess – I didn't choose that time at my favorite one to travel. Always try to be flexible with your days and times, try to fly on Tuesday or Wednesday and really early in the morning to catch a break in fares.
My all time favorite to compare fares and to find the ideal flight for me is Skyscanner as it gives you not only the possibility to find the cheapest months to fly, but also to choose the most affordable place to depart and arrive in the country of your choice.

Use cash
Here in Australia, you just tap the credit card on the eftpos machine to fix up your bill, which makes it pretty easy to loose track of your expenses. Try to take cash – only cash – to be aware of how much you are spending and to keep your bank account filled. You will be surprised how much that helps !

Set a daily budget and stick to it
This can be quite hard at the beginning, as I know most of us have those little voice whispering in our ear that we are on holiday, that we should enjoy our life and don't give a damn. If you want to stay on the road though, without ending up broke, it is quite important to keep a better eye on you're daily expenses. As I've already said – leave your credit card alone, take the cash you need to spend your day and go without the tempting, expensive treats. You will figure out how much you really need each day pretty quickly, if you go over this budget - cut it back the next day, if you manage to spend less you might be able to afford some shopping later. It is a great way to learn how to deal with money and to travel longer !

Stay away from shops and summer sales
I used to waist quite a lot of money on clothes, accessories and other fashion items that where tempting me out of the stores window here and there, which is surely the reason for why I ended up broke a few times. Even though it was always an interesting experience to pass the week without any money left – I had to stop buying. After reorganizing my whole wardrobe I finally realized how many clothes I have owed without even wearing them once. I decided to donate a few of them and to keep only my favorites, which did additionally make my backpack way lighter and so much more comfortable to carry around. From then on I stayed away from the big shopping emporiums, which are expensive in almost every aspect anyway, and just treat myself from time to time with some new pieces I do really like a lot. This helped me so much not only to become more aware of my needs, but also to get more creative with those clothes I own and to develop my own unique style!

Never leave without some snacks and drinks in your bag
Remember these practical lunch boxes you had in school ? They are coming back ! And even if it's just a bottle of water and an apple in your bag you will be saving money on snacks. Especially in bigger cities, it is pretty easy to spend your savings on those delicious little threats seducing you out of the bakeries window, and trust me – they will start to ad up in one point. I collected many good memories stopping somewhere to eat my pre-packed lunch or dinner, meeting awesome people, having good conversations and saving some coins at the end of the day.

Take the public transport
Isn't it ridiculously easy to just wait for a minute on the side of the road and catch the next cap ? It might be comfortable and relaxed – until it comes to the payment. The easiest way is rarely the smartest one. Try to make use of the public transport as often as possible, which is surprisingly good in almost every bigger city. You will not only treat your wallet, but also get a better idea of the locals lifestyle and might end up in the most beautiful places when accidentally taking the wrong bus or train.
(If you are under time pressure or just want to be comfortable from time to time catch an Ueber Taxi, which works out a bit cheaper than a regular cap)

Don't stay in Hotels
Instead of spending tons of cash for a hotel room each night, try housesitting, couchsurfing, volunteering or to work for accommodation. You'll be surprised about the possibilities most places offer you to protect your money and also to make memorable experiences most people don't !

Don't hesitate to talk to locals
My golden travel rule, which you can apply in many many situations of your journey – talk to locals and don't be shy to ask them questions about their home ! You will be surprised about the information you get and maybe even make some new friends ! A good ice-breaker is always to ask for directions or simple advice (How do I get to street x?”).

Travel off-peak
I remember being absolutely amazed by how affordable Thailand was when I visited this beautiful country for the first time during the monsoon-season. When I came back a few years later, visiting the same places at the same time as most tourists and travelers, I was shocked by the increased prices. Do a little research to not to end up spending too much money for accommodation, food and co, just because you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Especially South East Asia is even more enjoyable during the low-season, as less tourist lead the countries to be way more authentic and you to experience it in a way most other wont.

Treat yourself
Don't forget to be generous to yourself from time to time. It is great to live on a budget, save money and make unique experiences, but life is a book we are writing ourselves, so who said it is not allowed to break the rules from time to time ?
Pick one day at the end or the beginning of each month, take your favorite dress out and treat yourself however you like it the best.

#59 THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO PLAN YOURE NEXT ROADTRIP

If there is one thing I hate from the deepest of my heart, one thing that turns me into an obnoxious human being – it would be waking up early. (I'm serious, every single one of my friends would agree). This morning our alarm went off with a provocative thrill at around 4am. Yes, 4AM IN THE MORNING. And I swear – in any other case I would have turned it off in order to continue dreaming, but I knew … we were flying to Adelaide to travel along the Great Ocean Road!
18987 coffee and a long time of silence later we arrived in Adelaide – the capital city of south Australia ! Well, for two girls from Berlin, who lived in Sydney for quite a while, it did not really feel like as if we were stranded in a city that is entered under the same heading, as the place is quite small (compared to those mentioned ones we've been).
A lovely friend of us was awaiting us at the airport, which made carrying all of our stuff much easier, and together we took the Airport Shuttle to his place. The first 3 days were meant to discover the city – read all about it here – before we would pick up our rented SUV to make our way through the Great Ocean Road to Melbourne.
This piece of writing will be for those of you who are planing to do a Roadtrip – maybe even the same as us – and need some tips and advice on how to plan it, because even though I always prefer to plan just as little as possible, there is nothing wrong with doing a little bit research just to feel prepared.

So – how to plan this awesome Roadtrip ?

1. The Route
Who could have charged with that you would have to plan your route – even if necessarily just roughly – before driving along it ? Surprise, Surprise !
You probably won't make it without a proper map or your smartphone anyway, but it is quite important to give yourself + your company a roughly idea about where you are heading and how much time you should take to make the most out of your trip. Of course, nobody expects you to know the route by heart, neither will you be able to avoid getting lost at some point, but preparing that much won't be wrong and further it is quite some fun, as it provides your imagination with some ground for those expectations you should take on every trip you do.
This was our Route – 12h, 960km and the most amazing surroundings.

2.The car
Hold your breath – the next secret I'm telling you is that you are probably gonna need at least 1 car ! Yes, one of those big metallic things on 4 wheels. Even though this might be a little bit unexpected – choose your car wisely !
Our decision ended in renting a SUV (= big car) for 3 days and two nights, as we would drive quite a lot everyday (around 5-9h) and only make a few longer stops. We used all the space which a car like this provides, as our studying friend (poor poor guy) was moving from Adelaide over to Melbourne and had tons of stuff to transport from A to B. According to the circumstances he was willing to pay a little bit more than we did and It worked out so well !
Feel free to check out the company we trusted here , but please take your time to find a cheaper option if you are not traveling with that much stuff !
Compare the prices of Australia's major car rental brands on vroomvroomvroom or just walk straight into the Travel Agency of your hostel to get some advice and maybe even a better deal. I am pretty sure that you won't have any problems, but still advice you to check the car probably and might take some pictures of any minor damage you can find to avoid the risk of getting charged any further costs at the end.
( I found this handy article on Tripadvisor for those who might have further questions)
Alternatively – and definitely better and cheaper for longer trips – you can also buy your own car, give it a name and a lots of love. I won't miss to write an article about that, as I just found my partner in crime – Mitch – a few weeks ago.

3.The Budget
So, you have an epic Route and a sexy Car. That's great ! I hope you have some spare coins as well, because even though the best things in life are free – this trip isn't. Get a roughly idea of the basic expenses like fuel, food , alcohol (please respect my humor) and accommodation (even if you're a bad ass like me sleeping in the car – parking is not always free. Skip a beer and invest the money in wikicamps to lead you to the best ones). Depending on whatever works best for you – make a list or just keep it in mind to avoid ending up broke afterwords (like me) – especially if you're on a small budget.
- In case you have a tiny budget (like me), don't get desperate – there is always a way to travel. That one dude in the hostel I am currently staying at told me he wouldn't have the money to stay in one place, which is why he is traveling. Ever thought that way

4.The company
Being alone is nice, but on a 10h drive it can get quite boring – and expensive. Make sure you find some human beings who are as badass as you are to not to get bored on the way, share the beautiful moments you will happen to experience and to share the costs ! Happiness is the only thing that get's bigger when shared, right ?

5.The stops
Where do you plan to stay overnight ? Where should you take the time to take a deep breath, enjoying a view that will take it away instantly ? Do a little bit research about where to stop, because that's the heart of your Roadtrip !
We did pretty much all of the common stops along the Great Ocean Road – 12 Apostles, London Bridge, Apollo Bay... - but also stopped whenever we have assumed a place on the road to be nice and made the best memories there.

( 6.The To-Do List )
That's the personal addition to any trip I make – a little piece of paper filled with my personal desires. And it is so much fun !
What is most important for me to see and to do ? What do I need to look back on this trip afterwords and appreciate it the most ?
Anything I could might forget without writing it down?
* Never forget to drive on the wrong side (because in Germany we go for the right side – got the joke ? )
* Sing super loud and completely wrong to old rock songs with one of my most loved humans in the car
* Drive so close to the ocean that I keep smelling the beautiful odor of salt
* Experience the sun going down at the 12 Apostles (even if it was crab that day)
* Wake up on the beach
* Have some meals on top of the car (careful here please)
* Lay on top of the car and watch the stars (one of my weird habits from home I could not miss anymore)
* Randomly jump into the sea at some lonely beach we find
What would be yours ?
I hope to help some of you planing your trip - if anyone has further questions or ideas to ad here, please feel free to contact me ! Thanks a lot for reading!
Cheers !

#58 ROADTRIP IN PICTURES

As I want to share as much as I possibly can about the best drive of my life - the great ocean road -, I will make a start through publishing some of my favorite pictures with you.
Most of them were shot by my friend, as I was busy driving. Some were shot by me during a break. All of them are telling a story.

The water to my right, my beloved friend to my left. The driving wheel laying in my hands, quiet and calm as if it never belonged anywhere else and the endless road in front of me, promising millions of paths, adventures and thoroughness.

There is absolutely nothing I know in this world that could ever beat the feeling afflicting me when letting the ocean take over control. Those feeling burning through my body, starting out at my ears which are absorbing the waves soft melody while my eyes are never getting tired of watching them crushing against the majestic cliffs.

#57 040816

So. It has been a really long time since I took the time to be active here on my little baby. Well, I have been damn busy – and broke. I'm still broke, counting $3 on my bank account, but my Laptop is charged, my music playing, the sun is shining and my van parked safely. Yes, I am living out of a van – but let's start where we left of. Adelaide, Roadtrip, traveling alone again.
So let's see what I wrote down more than a months ago !
#040816
Sydney. Bondi. Beach. “awful painting of waves here” I can hardly remember my last day off – can hardly remember my last – public – piece of writing. So this one I call 'diary', so where do I start ? (bad repetition Kim) Before my friend left, we flew to Adelaide, spend a few beautiful days there together and made our way along the stunning Great Ocean Road up to Melbourne. As I happened to be the only one holding a valid drivers license, I had the pleasure to drive us all the 800km (roughly) from A to B (or 'M' in this case – your not as funny as you think you are). It was, without even the smallest thought of doubt (pretty sure the formulation is not correct at all), the most beautiful drive of my life so far, the most exiting one and (also) the most thoughtful one. (If this would be a serious article, I would change the word 'thought' below – well, past-Kim: my auto correction agrees with that). We had rain, darkness, assholes on the road driving next to me (oh yes!) - but nothing matters (well, some of them made me really crazy) as we enjoyed the overwhelming presence of the endless ocean lingering to our right. I will not miss to write a more detailed, better written article about this memory, as it was one of the best ones in my life. It lightened up that fire inside of me, which I failed to keep alive for some time (drama baby). We arrived in Melbourne, enjoyed our last days together. She flew home & I made my way back to Sydney (again by catching an uneconomical plane). Alone again, when I arrived at the KXB (Kings Cross Backpacker Hostel), where I stayed for the next few weeks, working for accommodation, saving money, following my other job as a waitress and being haunted by this more than unpleasant feeling of that I do nothing but working. What a life. It's not like I couldn't do all that – physically: no worries. But you know what? - I don't f*** want to. Not anymore. Not in Australia.
That's why I decided to move out, find a flat and pay rent. (and this is where the part in which I loose my money and end up completely broke in a van starts) That was one of the best decisions during my time here so far (yep, broke but happy). I decided to live again. (Yeah.. we got it Kim – good decision). To take a break, don't let the money pressure push me down, don't let work tiring me out till I have no energy left, don't live my life like that. (Got it? Good decision “approving smiley here pls).It might sound a bit too serious but - for me – that decision was incredibly important (Bla Bla Bla). I moved to a great shared flat in Bondi, spent time at the beach, had good parties with my flatmates and enjoyed my awesome life. (For three weeks, until the landlord kicks us out – but more of that later)

#56 THOUGHTS

Am I only complaining ? Cause I do feel like I am at the moment. Complaining about myself, about my life and - of course -  about my art. About the money I really never have (nothing new actually), about the weather (which is in fact really good over here compared to Germany), about my flatmates keeping the apartment pretty messy (hate it!) and here and there some guys being silly little boys. Well, as you see, actually I am just complaining about myself, because that is where it all comes from. Being happy is a decision, one I did make. I am happy. It still feels like there is those little piece missing, the writing - as usual - the art. I want to write. I have to write. It is the missing piece. So, well, I am on it. I mean, not to write some nonsense like that, but some useless sh**. Some articles to help you guys out there making the most of their travels, no matter if long or short. You look at all these great travel blogs, being inspired, amazed and intimated. How do they write those beautiful lines ? How did they get through all these html sh** ? Why can I not write like that ?
Well, let's find out and give it a shot, cause that is all I have.
**This post is so much more for me, but that is how I want this to be. This blog, mine. Authentic and honest.

#55 ADELAIDE - CHECK

Finally. I finally pressed those small blue 'publish' button that converted my draft into an actual post. I have been planing to write this article for so long, read so many (damn good ones) from other writers, wrote down many many phrases in those little book that was supposed to lead me through this. I wanted to give you a really good, professional guide about how to spend a short time in Adelaide. Well, don't get me wrong, I still want to write professional guides for those you out there who need advise, but I had to admit that I am not there yet. I know that I am just starting, I know that my English is not as good as I want it to and I know that I need to improve also my writing a lot. Anyhow, I've decided to just jump down from that cliff which would not allow me to have a glance at the ground I am facing, I've decided to just write that article. Right now.
I don't change my goal – never change my dreams – but I change my path. I chose the way that might be a bit longer - therefore less stony and full of light to nourish my heart.
However, who of you is planing a trip to Adelaide but short on time ?
When visiting any place, I hardly try to avoid the feeling of that I am 'not done', that my limited eye hasn't seen enough of those piece of our big world which is surrounding me there. I do really like to read through some guides in order to convince myself of that I took advantage of my time.
That is why I want to share with you my ultimate guide on how to see, do and eat your way through the very best of Adelaide.
The capital of south Australia has so much more to offer than the (absolutely tasty) wine it is so well known for. Not only that the city will feed your eyes with deeply green colors you can spot in it's many parks, but you will find your attention distracted by stylish architecture, your ears gently listening to some relaxed street music and your naked feet kept warm by the sand you find at the 30km of beaches stretching along its suburb.
So here's my ultimate guide on how to spend a day in Adelaide !
First things first - Breakfast at Nutrition Republic
Start your day at at the southern territory of the city with a pilgrimage to the adoring combination of great coffee and healthy food : Nutrition Republic (1/100 King William Road, Goodwood, South Australia 5034 ). I was truly amazed by this place as it offers not only the great coffee I have already mentioned, but a wide range of other drinks as any sort of tea and fresh juices at reasonable prices. In combination with one of their delicious breakfast bowls or just some baked goodies, this place is ideal to treat yourself in the the morning.
(around $20 for a big breakfast)
Beach baby !
I hope you packed your swimsuit as Adelaide has stunning beaches to offer which you shouldn't miss. Walk approx 15 min to the tram stop (Stop 2, Wayville) and catch the train towards Glenelg, which will take you close to the ocean within 25min. Get off at Moseley square (Stop 17) take out your blanket, enjoy the sun and give yourself some time to relax at this beautiful white-sand beach.
Believe me one thing - I know too well, that you could spend your whole day here, but you should really not miss a walk through the historic village. As soon as the sun start's scorching your skin, it is time to browse Glenelg's bustling shops and pretty cafés on Jetty Road, mosey through Moseley Square and along the jetty as you overlook the water and don't miss a quick look into the free museum (located in the Town Hall in Moseley Square) to expand your knowledge with some details about the area's rich history and heritage.
Lunch – Vego and Love'n it
Once you're done scoping down the beach head back towards the city and convince yourself of that a burger doesn't need meat to be delicious ! The tram 'H20' (from Zone B Colley Tce - West side, close to Moseley Square) will easily take you to Stop 1 Grenfell St - North side, from which Vego and Love'n it is reachable within a few steps. If you haven't figured it out yet, you're going to need a pair of pants that stretches with you – as the wide range of veggie burgers is simply overwhelming. You will be able to combat your hunger for around $15.
The north terrace
Stuffed ? Go for a walk to support your body digesting ! Make your way over to the northern parts of the city and wander around. Apart from the State Parliament, The University of Adelaide and the Convention Centre, this area hosts the impressive Art Gallery of South Australia presenting big names of Australian art and the South Australian Museum. Round off your walk by visiting among 50 hectares of maintained gardens and impressive pieces of architecture in the Botanic Garden. Depending on your interests, it is the best place to get deeper in whether the history, the art, the people or the nature of that place.
Adelaide Oval
Considered as one of the most attractive grounds in the world, the Adelaide Oval is not to miss on your trip – walk approx 15min from the Art Gallery via Kintore Ave and soak in the energy of this impressive building. Depending on your time and points of interests, you can do a guided tour $22 for around to explore inside the iconic scoreboard and get to know more about it's history. (Tours operate at 2pm on weekdays, which means that you would probably have to modify your plan a little bit to be there in time – I suggest to go before you are heading to the north terrace)
Dinner, please !
Hungry? Grab some delicious dinner at The Hungry Hippo, located on Hindley Street (196 Hindley St, Adelaide, SA 5000). Get here within 10 min by walking around 15 min (1,7km) or be a bit more lazy and let the the bus (273, 98A) give you a lift from Stop 2 Montefiore Rd - East side to Stop 1 Montefiore Rd - East side. Choose your meal of choice from their extensive menu and spend your waiting time playing one of their board games – yes, you did not read wrong, they offer a wide variety of broad games to affordable prices and make sure you are having a good time by giving you great advises. The experience is definitely worth a try ! (around $25 to fill your stomach and to play)
Somebody said drinks ?
It's time to test out Adelaide's bustling bar scene, by walking around 700km along Currie St towards the small laneway quarter around Gilbert Place. You will find yourself in between an exploration of inner city personality and fancy streets. Industrial spaces, quirky facades and inviting breweries – it's all to spot there. I highly recommend you to move your feed on Peel St, where they can easily carry you into Clever little Tailor (19 Peel St, Adelaide SA 5000). Escape the streets and fling open the little wooden door to reveal those charming spot. Take a seat and enjoy your beverage of choice by the fantastic atmosphere you fill find yourself surrounded by.
(If you feel like going out check out the surrounding nightclubs such as Zhivago, Red Square and many more to dance the night away !)

#54 FAILURE

Up and down. Down and up - that's life man ! Well, dude, sometimes life just sucks. Sometimes it really sucks.
For me it did during the last weeks for several reasons. (Spoiler alarm) I am going to put more about that story down tomorrow in an amazing Diary post, which you guys should definitely read !
However, to come back to the sense of this one - one reason for why I was pretty down was the World Nomads travel writing scholarship.
Those of you who directed their little white arrow on these blue letters where let to a new page, demonstrating my failure when it comes to 'being an aspiring travel writer' in the eyes of their jury. Don't get me wrong, I am not a native English speaker, neither am I close to be a professional travel writer or something like that. I was aware of that I did never really have a big chance to win those contest, with it's even amazing price - but there was those little spark of hope that kept me praying for success.
So, as you can probably guess - after they announced the winners on their website (which wrote some incredible stories down that you should definitely check out by the way), I got pretty depressed. Did not want to write. Decided to just live the 'backpacker life'. Went out, went to work, watched the complete eight season of Supernatural. (Yes, I am addicted)
I guess I missed this. I missed my free time during all those time I invested in improving my writing, planing my articles and dreaming about the future. But at the end of the day - something was missing, something kept me from sleeping as well as I did before. Writing.
So? I experienced failure, I took my time. Now I want to go back, listen to my heart and just write it all down. Because I don't really care if anybody does really take the time to read all this - I need it, my soul needs it to communicate with my brain. To gently fall asleep at the end of each day, knowing that it was sieved.
I do what I've always done since I can think - I do bleed my heart out through my art.
So here's my insufficient article, followed by a short essay about why I should have been chosen as a winner of that contest. (Haha)
A local encounter that changed the way I perceive the world forever
I was sitting on my double bed back home, talking to my beloved mother while enjoying some leftovers from the evening before.
“I will take care of myself mum, don't worry”, were the words I repeated so often these weeks that they could have been one of those annoying slogans they keep airing in everyday American soaps.
And even if her worries didn't fail to have an impact on me – the most dominant picture I caught sight of nevertheless was mainly composed of colorful lines of hope carried by a similarly arranged background of excitement.
Although I knew that I wouldn't change the world – the wish of making at least a small difference through volunteering as an English teacher in India was deeply engraved in my heart.
Aesthetic red and gold Saris against the decaying environment.
My student Gita – who invited me for having dinner with her family that evening - had led me through narrow lines of the slum that were utterly polluted with towering mounds of rubbish. And even if she would have given me a window of opportunity to share my thoughts, I doubt that I could have been able to think of any appropriate comments when facing the four square meter room that she calls home.
There was no bed. There was no toilet. There was no kitchen.
Silver glances of light led my attention to a cherubic little girl, revealing her to be the source of a genuine laugh. Surrounded by walls covered in mold, my host's daughter sat on a ragged bamboo mat and concentrated on a game she played on a phone that was older than myself. The last rays of sunshine found their way easily through the broken window and highlighted some of the narrow bones the child's fragile skin failed to hide.
Recognizing Gita's expectant gaze, I forced my mouth to reveal a smile, which came out more like an aching grimace. “It is not much, but that's all we need”, the Indian reassured with a bright, genuine grin – expressed through all 42 human facial muscles.
Seduced by the appetizing odor of the food her mother served later, two more gleaming pairs of eyes joined us and the six of us enjoyed Chapati bread with Dal.

The frayed bamboo mat was more comfortable than any chair, the shattered window allowed a pleasing breeze to enter and the proximity we kept gave me an insight into the family's soul which was fulfilled in the most beautiful way.
I caught a tear glistening in my eyes when saying goodbye to Gita later - the most prosperous woman who has ever crossed my path.
I am not your teacher. You are mine.
Why should I be chosen ?

Sterile white walls surrounding me, the monotonous noises of the blunt clock I am facing build up the illusion of it standing still, the familiar odor of fear stuck in my nose stronger than ever before.
The pressure of not knowing exactly if something is wrong or how severe it can be is absolutely overwhelming.
There is nothing I can do, nothing I can change about it.
All I do is praying for a positive diagnosis of the doctor – for a positive diagnosis of your judges.
Is my writing good enough ?
This little girl doesn't know much about art, neither does she know much about herself. The only thing she knows for sure is that it has the power to make her feel complete. It makes her forget everything else, it gives her the ability to express not only thoughts but deepest feelings in the most beautiful way and the ability to turn her mouth into this ever so slight smile will always be reserved for art.
I am deeply in love with transforming a plain sheet of paper into an expressive piece of writing invoking the assistance from only a simple pen and I would be more than grateful about the opportunity of learning how to improve my skills from an expert. It would bring me a big step closer to my dream of being able to afford a simple lifestyle through my stories one day and to send out messages that not only I, but so many beautiful people I met on my travels so far, want to share with a bigger audience.

#53 PLANS

Aren't we all dreaming a lot ? Aren't we saying 'what if' too often ? Why don't we just do it ? Why don't we all just live our dreams ?
There are so many people out there which are stuck in there office job, struggling to get to the end of each single day without the smallest piece of passion for what they do anymore. “It is good money”, “I worked so hard to get here” , “What else should I do?” … How do you call it ? - stupid excuses ?
If you are not happy about your job, your relationship or (worst of all) your life in generall – just change it ! We all have those big, unreachable dream that we might call stupid from time to time. That one dream that always stay's to bring a hint of light in out darkest hours, to lead us back to those shining hope when we are close to give up. But we do only have those one, limited life gifted to us by something higher. So what are we waiting for ? So why don't we just life it ? Why don't we just go for it ? Why don't we just ****ing do it ?
I have been looking at things so much, I have been thinking so much, I made so endless numbers of plans in my head. I painted these incredible, stunning picture in my head. It showed my inner eyes a beautiful life, the life I would have when following all of those plans I had (and still have). If I would just do it, if I would just convert all those thoughts in actions... I was stuck at the beginning of the road, unable to realize that my tank is full, concentrated on planing the way while I did not even started the journey. It was so easy to get lost in my own head, easy to stay there and to pretend.
But don't you buy a flower to look at it. You inhale it's tasty odor to exhale all of your bad vibes. So, how long does that last if you don't water the flower? Whether you forget it, don't find the time to do it or don't have the liquid to water it. The flower can't take it into account, the flower won't have the smallest choice, the flower will just die - slowly. It will loose it beautiful leaves, it's shining color will fade and it's head will face the dead ground on which it is based. Why do we keep plants if we don't nourish them ? Why do we kill?
I do not want to let all of my flowers die but to find those diet out of thousands that makes them growing even taller and colors them brighter. I realized that I do not have to change my dreams, that I don't have to buy new flowers, but to change my daily actions to led me there someday.
You – only you – are the author of the story they call life, of your story. I am gonna write mine in a way I will never regret. What about you ?

#52 NUTELLA ROADTRIP

“A dream is a wish your heart makes” - Walt Disney
14.06.2016, 4am
'I set an alarm for 7am, alright?', came out of her smiling mouth more as a strict order than as a question. You can probably guess how enthusiastic I looked at the 3 hours of sleep I had left.
But we all have dreams, the big ones and those which are smaller. What would a human be without his dream ? What would be worth living if not a dream ?
Martin Luther King did not have a dream – a dream had him! Just like each earthling on our planet, he was chosen by a dream. And once it got you it won't ever let you go, holing you tight with it's scratching claws deep beneath your skin. You need to follow your dreams, nourish them with fresh air to keep them breathing, water them with clear liquid to keep them moist and feed them a healthy nutrition to keep them strong enough to come true one day.
My friend had a dream – one that came true. This is the reason why I renounced my beloved sleep, why I forced myself to be in the best possible mood the next morning and why I earned a big smile shining on her mouth that day.
14.06.2016, 8am
We joined the queue for the first Nutella Roadtrip.
Me – super tired with a giant coffee in my left hand and the camera in the other one.
Lara – super happy with an incredible smile spreading all over her face.
*Here's where I stop my silly introduction
I am trying to live vegan and further not the biggest Nutella Fan anyway, which is why I did not went into the food heaven on that sunny morning but tried to be the best company for my friend instead and took some pictures of the happening. It was Nutellas first Roadtrip, it's first stop and as far as I know it's first success with it. Shining eyes, awaiting minds and hungry stomachs. Chocolate makes you happy, which was made more clear than ever that day. From Crumpet to Crepe, from mandarin to berries, you would find plenty of choices there after the motto 'ways to experience nutella in the morning'.The crew is driving their chocolate van from Sydney all the way down to Melbourne, making a couple of stops on the way to hand out free samples of their product.
It is definitely worth going there, cause even if you're not the biggest Nutella fan like me – who doesn't like freebies ?

14.06.2016, 4 Uhr nachts,
'Ich stelle den Wecker auf 7 Uhr, okay?', sprudelte aus ihrem grinsenden Mund, mehr als ein Befehl als eine Frage. Es ist unschwer zu erahnen wie begeistert ich angesichts der mir bevorstehenden 4 Stunden Schlaf war.
Aber wir alle haben Traeume, grosse und kleine, breite und schmale, lange und kurze. Was waere der Mensch ohne seinen Traum?
Martin Luther King hatte keinen Traum - jener ihn ihn!
*An diesem Punkt endet meine alberne Einleitung
Schokolade macht gluecklich, was an diesem Tag unverkennbar war.

#51 100616

3 months in Australia so far. They say time is running when you're happy. Right now – time is running away from me, it is flying and sometimes I think I can't even catch up. But you always do, you always catch up, no matter how slow you go. There was a lot to do when we just arrived in Sydney. At the beginning it was about finding a couchsurfer, then about finding a job, about finding an apartment, about finding a bike... It seemed like this search would never find it's end. Now it just did and in it starts all over again. Finding a hostel, finding a way to save enough money..
My friend is leaving soon. 3 weeks left to spend with her in Sydney. One week of traveling. That's it. Then I will be alone again – while 'again' feels like as if it would actually be the first time right now. The good thing on which I am really looking forward to : more time to write, more time for me, more time to inhale Australia.
You know, it is beautiful to live here – to know that it is possible. It really is. I know that I can always 'run' – I learned so far that there is always the opportunity to just escape and build a new life somewhere. But isn't that too easy ? You can never run away from yourself. Not really.
That's why it is, why it will always be the healthiest way (at least for me) to go home at some point. To face the reality. That is what my friend does. She is ready – I am not. Not yet. I have to see the world, feed my hunger and see myself more clearly. (Oh, and I definitely have to improve my english!)
This is my first post in that style. I always liked it way more to write on an actual paper that on my laptop. In that way I can improve, change my writing afterwords – but do the actual thing, the writing like I love it.

#48 HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Isn't your birthday one of the best days of the year ? For me it is. It always was ! It is quite hard to describe but I guess there are two kinds of persons when it comes to these things - some people just don't treat their day of birth as something special but put it to the collection of all these 'normal' day's that each of us has. Why not.
When it comes to my birthday I appreciate my life, I appreciate my family, my home and everything which comes up in my mind or just passes it even on a long distance - I endeavor to use that day as 'my day', try not to worry but to be just happy - be purely happy and grateful. My family knows that and appreciates it. This year, last week it was not like that, I am not with my family, I am 14,461 km far away to be more detailed. Even though the day felt was way more strange than just a bit - so much that I would pretty reluctantly call it a 'real' birthday -  I had a great time which I want to share with you guys. My beloved friend which is accompanying me overseas made the most tastiest cake, we placed some presents on our small wooden dining table and she turned on birthday songs when the first sunbeams became strong enough to pass my skin and light up my mind for the upcoming day that morning.
Another wonderful person from back home came over to grab a piece of the piece of heaven/cake and joined me to Sydney's famous Zoo - which you can visit for free on your birthday - later. Even though we messed up the time and had only a little left in the end to actually see some animals, it was a lot of fun !

There are plenty of other freebees you can collect a when spending the day on which you were born a couple of years ago in Sydney - check out this list ! You will find a few where the signing up process will cost you more effort than for the others. We did successfully collected are a free meal from Subway, a beautiful (!) Chai Tea from Gloria Jeans , a $25 Voucher from Bondi pizza, a Juice from Boost and - of course - the Zoo Entry !

PS: Isn't it sad how vigorously people avoid enjoying mother natures incredible beauty when see sun goes down by distracting their eyes - obviously on purpose - using these little pieces of metal ?

#50 HOW TO FIND A JOB IN AUSTRALIA

I am here to work and to travel afterwords. Sounds familiar ?
It is probably one of the most likely things people do after their graduation, and it definitely is a great way to keep your wallet filled ! But what's the least fun part of the working holiday in Australia?
The step back into reality – basically the search for a job, which comes obviously with the challenge of making conscious effort and is a tough call for some, which is why I collected some of my experiences for you.
1. PREPARE
You managed to get your Visa, packed your Backpack – basically you are ready to start, right ?
No. You will have to do so many things to care about once you are there, so try to figure out what you can prepare in advance. I started working on my CV in Asia, but I have not taken enough time on writing and rather spend most of it on the beach. Afterwords I hardly regret this as there was so much to organize over here that I struggled to find enough time to finish it properly while I knew that it is essential to even apply for a job. (Although most Aussies do not really care about your CV – you are always supposed to hand it out)
Further you can start to inform yourself about the different options you have according your future bank account (required), a sim-card (if needed), how to get a tax number and maybe even where you could imagine living (in case you plan to rent a apartment).
2. ORGANIZE
Think about it. What do you really want to work – even if only for a short time ? How much money do you need ? Where do you want to live ? How do you want to spend your time abroad ?
We are all here to work – but work is work and even if you find a good one, there is so much more to do during your stay! I love my job, but life wouldn't be fun without some free time. Me and my friend cared about renting an apartment when we didn't even have a a job – now we are riding our bikes for around 30 min every day just to get to work. It is a great workout but can also be called a waist of time.
Do it step by step ! Figure out what is the best way to use your time overseas and make a rough plan for yourself. How do you want to get to work ? (is the public transport affordable?) Which part of the city seems to provide an environment that fits your personal interests?
3. DONT LIE TO YOURSELF
No one is seriously honest in his CV – and everybody tells you to lie, but you should at least keep it close to reality !
If you don't have any experience as a waitress, Barista or bar stuff – don't pretend that you worked in that field for a long term as it can get pretty uncomfortable at a trial to not to know what (and how) to do. Keep it simple and rather talk about your character strength's – you are friendly, honest, reliable … but first of all highly motivated ! You probably wont work a difficult job during your stay here, which means that there is no reason for your employer to not to hire people with less experience who seem to be great in many other points and want to learn. Just prove it to them.
I did not have worked any major jobs as a waitress – after around 2 weeks I felt pretty confident in that working field.
According to my CV, I have collected 'first experiences as a waitress' at home, which is not a lie, but for sure not exactly what my boss was looking for. I was willing to learn and gave my best, not only at the trial but until now, which is way more important to her. If you find a job that seems to suit you well, give it a shot without telling too much in your application, but rather wait for the trial to show how much you want the employment.
4.GUMTREE
There are many different websites promising jobs such as Seek or Indeed. I can highly recommend to use Gumtree as it turns out that the big sites are filled with recruiters and only a few options for temporary workers. Anybody can post an ad on gumtree, without much effort and for free, which causes the small companies, cafes and restaurants to more likely post there.
I found not only my job there, but also my flat!
5. DONT BE SCARED
At the end of the day – it is just work. No big deal and – first of all – no big difference to home !
If you're doing bad at a trial (what happens to me quite often at the beginning), don't be down but just continue searching. Some people might find a job within 3 days – it took me 3 weeks for me, maybe even longer for you. I had so many bad trials, even a horrible job for some time which I quit in the end. That's alright. Just don't be scared, at the end you will find a great place to work – not to start your life here, but to realize that it has already started !
6. JUST DO IT
You DON'T HAVE TO prepare, don't have to plan, don't have to do whatever the internet tells you to. It is your time and nobody can tell you anything about it, if you disagree – screw it.
But you have to do it – that list just tells you how I did it, there is no need for you to stick to it or to anything else. The best advice I can give you – if you really want to find a job here – is to just go, print out your CV, hand it out wherever you pass on the way, text employers on gumtree … in other words: just get serious about it.
Cheers!

Viel Erfolg
